  1. Кнопка включения;
  2. Кнопка переключения режимов;
  3. Двойная кнопка регулировки температуры;
  4. Кнопка регулировки скорости вращения вала;

Ждем несколько секунд, пока жалюзи откроются, и начнет вращаться вентилятор внутреннего блока;

  1. Далее кнопкой регулировки вращения вала ставим любую удобную для вас скорость;

  1. Кнопкой регулировки жалюзи также ставим наиболее удобное для вас положение. Далее самое сложное – ЖДАТЬ пока из кондиционера повеет долгожданным теплом. После чего настраиваем кондиционер комфортно для себя. Подробнее о выборе температуры, а также о последних двух пунктах почитаете статью, как правильно пользоваться кондиционером;

  • если вы не знаете, при каких уличных температурах можно использовать конкретно вашу модель, то при отрицательной уличной температуре включать его не советую. Некоторые кондиционеры имеют защиту для этих случаев, потому могут не запуститься. Подробнее по этому вопросу читайте статью возможности включения кондиционера зимой;
  • если текущая температура в комнате выше чем вы настроили, то «греть» он не будет;
  • при настройке направляйте пульт в сторону кондиционера, чтобы он принимал сигнал. Иначе может получиться так, что на пульте настройки меняются, а кондиционер работает в прежнем режиме;
  • существуют модели, которые работают только на охлаждение, хотя такие образцы в последнее время попадаются крайне редко. При этом на пульте у них могут отображаться и другие режимы. Уточняйте возможность работы на тепло конкретно вашей модели;

  • В компрессоре фреон сжимается и под высоким давлением поступает в теплообменник внутреннего блока;
  • Здесь происходит процесс конденсации, приводящий к подогреву хладагента до температуры 60–80°С;
  • Затем жидкий фреон поступает в испаритель наружного блока, где его давление резко падает;
  • Происходит испарение хладагента;

  • Более быстрый нагрев или охлаждение воздуха помещения;
  • Низкий уровень шума;
  • Высокая точность установки температурного значения;
  • Срок эксплуатации компрессора увеличивается до 15 лет, в то время как на обычном кондиционере он не превышает 8 лет;
  • При сбоях в электросети происходит автоматическое возобновление работы прибора;
  • Экономнее расходуют электроэнергию и лучше адаптируются к перепадам напряжения;

  • соотношение мощности нагрева к потребляемой – СОР;

 1.jpg

90000 Air Conditioner heating and cooling guide 90001 90002 Even if you live where temperatures are extreme, you’ll probably want a combination of both heating in winter and cooling in summer. With new climate records being set throughout Australia each year, choosing the right air conditioning solution will turn your home into an oasis of comfort, all day, every day. 90003 90002 Our advanced air conditioning technology and an array of smart features mean that you can enjoy much more than just heating and cooling.You have the ultimate in temperature control, quality air, cost-savings and have a sleek contemporary design whichever system you choose. 90003 90006 Heating and Cooling Systems 90007 — how do they work? 90008 90009 90002 Most contemporary air conditioning systems have reverse-cycle technology. This means they can heat and cool your home. In fact, every air conditioner in the Daikin range offers both heating and cooling options. This includes our Split System, Multi-Split and Ducted air conditioning systems, depending on whether you wish to control the temperature in just a few rooms or throughout your entire home.90003 90006 Beautifully warm in winter 90009 You’ll be surprised to know that even cold winter air contains usable heat that you can pump inside your home. Daikin reverse-cycle technology absorbs this heat from the outside air to create a cosy atmosphere within. It’s easy to regulate so you enjoy just the warmth you want and it’s also more energy efficient than conventional heaters, which need to generate heat, rather than harnessing heat energy from the outside air to create warmth inside. 90002 Living in our very cold states? Daikin air conditioners have you covered.Our automatic defrost cycle means even if it gets to minus 10ºC, you’ll still stay warm, as your Daikin effortlessly continues to heat your home to a pre-set temperature. 90003 90006 Perfectly chilled in summer 90009 Likewise, as the mercury rises, a Daikin reverse cycle air conditioner absorbs heat from the inside air and disperses it outside, leaving your home the perfect chill-out zone. If you’re in the tropics, you’ll love the fact that advanced Daikin technology finds it a breeze to cool your home, even when it gets up to 46 ºC.90002 Remember, cool air is heavier than warm. So, when you’re looking for the ideal position for your air conditioner, install it as close to the ceiling as possible. For cool air, point the louvres upward or horizontally and for warm air, direct the louvres down towards the people in the room. 90003 90006 Two hot tips to keep you cool 90009 • Sounds obvious — but only cool the rooms you need. If you have a ducted air conditioning system, you can use your zone settings. Or if you have another system, close doors between cooled and uncooled rooms to stop warm air seeping in.If one of your rooms is naturally very warm (e.g. an attic), or cool (e.g. a cellar), you can switch to a fan-only setting to help save energy. 90002 • When you set your thermostat, remember that every 1 degree colder can cost up to 10% extra in energy. So do not just set and forget the temperature at an icy level — outside temperatures vary throughout the day and so should your air conditioning. 90003 90006 What are the benefits of Inverter Technology? 90009 Daikin Inverter Technology is one of the most energy-efficient ways to heat and cool your home.It gently adjusts power so you reach your desired temperature faster and then maintains it, without fluctuations. Much more effective than a non-inverter system, Daikin’s advanced inverter compressor continually adjusts the heating or cooling output, depending on the temperature in the room. 90002 You’ll not only enjoy beautifully consistent temperatures, inverter technology makes Daikin air conditioners more energy efficient, with longer life span, as there’s less wear and tear. 90003 90006 Save money with MEPS 90009 What’s MEPS we hear you ask? It simply means Minimum Energy Performance Standards and you can rest assured that our complete Daikin range not only complies with, they exceed the Australian MEPS requirements.90002 We also build in loads of great features into our Split System air conditioning systems to save you money, including Econo Mode and a Standby Power function. When it comes to Daikin Ducted systems, Predicted Mean Vote (PMV) control gently adjusts your room temperature throughout the day, giving you the ultimate balance of efficiency and comfort and making sure you only use the exact amount of power that you need. 90003 90006 Heating and cooling is just the start 90009 If someone in your family suffers from asthma or is sensitive to dust, you will not just want to warm and cool your home, you’ll want an air conditioner that purifies the air.Australia has one of the highest proportion of asthma sufferers in the world, and even more who are affected by hay fever and other airborne allergies. This means it’s vital that your air conditioner can also keep your air clean. 90002 Daikin’s Split System air conditioners are approved by the National Asthma Council Australia’s Sensitive Choice® program, and are the only split systems that carry the blue butterfly symbol. Their built in air-purifying filters trap fine airborne particles, like dust, smoke and pollen.And that’s not all. Our innovative US7 Split System air conditioner provides highly energy efficient temperature control and can humidify, dehumidify, ventilate, and purify. It’s also the most energy efficient split system air conditioner in Australia * with a 7-star ‘super efficiency’ rating using the all new R32 refrigerant. 90003 90002 90007 * 2.5kw model, as at 22/10/14 — visit www.energyrating.gov.au for details. 90008 90003 90006 Small details make a big impact 90009 Daikin air conditioners offer you an extensive range of features to take your heating and cooling experience to the next level.90002 Maybe you’ve just come in from a run and you need a blast of super cool air. Or perhaps you’re arriving home from a cold, rainy night out and you’d like to get cosy fast. Some Daikin Ducted Air Conditioning systems include a Quick Cool / Heat mode, which temporarily increases air conditioning power to rapidly reach the temperature you’d like, before they automatically revert to the usual comfortable room setting. 90003 90002 And here’s a breath of fresh air. If you’re an outdoors kind of person, Daikin’s US7 split system features a Natural Breeze Airflow mode, which varies airflow and direction to simulate the sensation of a crisp, natural breeze.90003 90006 Ask a Daikin Specialist 90009 When it comes to heating and cooling your home, Daikin are the air conditioning specialists. It’s all we do and we’re here to help you choose the very best system that’s just right for you. While barbecues and pool parties are great ways to enjoy the summer season, we all rely on the comfort of our homes to provide much needed respite from the heat. 90004 90003 This is when we count on our air conditioners the most. This is also the busiest season for HVAC technicians. We receive calls concerning ACs blowing warm air every single day of the summer.Luckily, it’s a common HVAC malfunction that can sometimes be solved by the owner. 90004 90003 If you’ve been asking yourself, 90008 «Why is my air conditioner blowing warm air?» 90009 Service Champions wants to help. If, however, it ends up being something you can not diagnose and fix on your own, contact Service Champions for all of your air conditioning needs and questions. 90004 90011 90012 90013 90008 Thermostat 90009 90016 90017 90018 90003 It may sound obvious, but the first thing you should check is the thermostat.If your AC is blowing hot air, the thermostat may have been accidentally set to «heat.» If this is the case, it’s easy to fix on your own. Simply flip the thermostat setting back to «cool» and see if the air conditioner begins to blow cool air again. 90004 90003 Additionally, you want to make sure that the batteries are working and that the temperature is not set too high. Remember, the «auto» function only utilizes the fan when air is being heated or cooled. The «on» function means the fan will run 24/7 to circulate the air, even if the AC or heater is off.We recommend using the «auto» function most of the time and only switching to «on» when needed. Learn more about «auto» and «on» thermostat functions. 90004 90003 90008 The Fix: 90009 Check the thermostat and make sure it is set to «cool» and at the proper temperature. If it needs new batteries, replace them. During the cooling season, we recommend setting the thermostat to around 78 degrees Fahrenheit and 7-10 degrees higher while away from home. If the setback period is 8 hours long, you can save 10% on your annual heating and cooling costs (U.S. Dept. of Energy). Learn more thermostat troubleshooting tips here. 90004 90003 Do you need to upgrade your thermostat? Learn how to choose the right thermostat for your home. 90004 90029 90012 90013 90008 Circuit Breaker 90009 90016 90017 90018 90003 After checking the thermostat batteries and setting, make sure the HVAC system has power by checking the electrical panel. HVAC units require a lot of power to run. When there is too much power demand, the circuit breaker may shut off power automatically as a safety precaution.90004 90003 90008 The Fix: 90009 Locate your electrical panel and look for a tripped breaker or blown fuse. To turn power back on to the unit, flip the breaker completely off (opposite direction of all the other breakers), and then flip it to the «on» position. If you have a blown fuse, you will need to replace it. This may also be a good time to label all of your circuits for easy reference the next time there is an overloaded circuit. 90004 90003 If your breaker continues to trip for seemingly no reason, you will need to contact a professional HVAC technician or electrician.90004 90045 90012 90013 90008 Evaporator Coils and Air Filter 90009 90016 90017 90018 90003 Although air filters have nothing to do with air temperature, a dirty air filter can lead to a dirty evaporator coil. When the evaporator coil gets clogged with dust and debris, there may not be enough free airflow to allow for proper cooling operation. A dirty air filter can debris buildup which leads to frozen evaporator coils. You may think that frozen = cool air, but the frozen coils actually impede the flow of cool air, which can lead to warm air flow from the running motor instead.90004 90003 Air filter replacements should be completed by the owner every 30-60 days, depending on the climate, filter type, and household. We recommend setting a monthly reminder to check the condition of your air filter at the start of every month. If light barely passes through the filter when you hold it up to the light, you should replace it with a fresh one. 90008 90009 90004 90003 90008 The Fix: 90009 If your evaporator coil is frozen, turn the unit off and change the air filter.Wait until the unit has thawed before turning it back on again. If the coils freeze up again, turn the unit off and immediately call a professional HVAC technician to troubleshoot the problem. You may have a refrigerant leak or a problem with the compressor, you will need professional assistance. 90004 90063 90012 90013 90008 Condenser Coils (Outdoor Unit) 90009 90016 90017 90018 90003 If you’ve checked the thermostat, breaker box, air filter, and indoor coils, it’s time to go outside to inspect the outdoor unit.Just as the indoor evaporator coils need free airflow, so do the outdoor evaporator coils. That’s why it’s recommended to maintain a minimum 2-foot clearance around the outdoor condenser unit at all times. 90004 90003 90008 The Fix: 90009 If your outdoor unit is clogged, turn off the unit at the source. Then, remove the larger items with gloved hands and rinse off the smaller debris with your garden hose. Learn step-by-step how to clean your outdoor condenser unit. 90004 90003 Remember to schedule a professional air conditioning tune-up and cleaning at the start of every cooling season.Double-check that your HVAC company include full indoor and outdoor coil cleanings as part of their regular tune-up. In addition to professional cleanings, it’s a good idea to periodically check the outdoor unit and clean it yourself when necessary. 90004 90079 90012 90013 90008 Refrigerant 90009 90016 90017 90018 90003 One of the main causes of a malfunctioning air conditioner is low refrigerant. If you have a worn service valve, loose joints, or poor assembly, you could have undercharged or overcharged refrigerant.90004 90003 90008 The Fix: 90009 Refrigerant (aka coolant) is highly dangerous. Unless you are a qualified technician, you should never try fixing refrigerant problems yourself. The best way to prevent refrigerant leaks in the first place is to schedule annual air conditioning tune-ups before the cooling season begins. If you do notice your AC blowing warm air, hissing / gurgling noises, or ice on your refrigerant line, act quickly. The sooner you respond to under or overcharged refrigerant the better.Contact your local HVAC company as soon as possible. 90004 90003 90008 Important Note: 90009 Do not trust a technician who simply adds refrigerant and that’s all. Since refrigerant operates on a closed loop system, if you are lacking refrigerant, it means there’s a leak somewhere. Your HVAC technician should repair the leak before adding any refrigerant. If the leak is not repaired, you are simply delaying the problem, not fixing it. 90004 90097 90008 Additional Summer Air Conditioning Tips: 90009 90100 90101 90012 Keep your thermostat at 78 90008 ° 90009 while at home and 7-10 degrees higher while away.90017 90012 Use your ceiling fan to feel around 4 ° cooler. 90017 90012 Prevent moisture problems with proper ventilation. 90017 90012 Sign up for a home maintenance plan so you never forget annual tune-up appointments. 90017 90012 Set reminders to check your air filter every 30 days. 90017 90012 Keep doors and windows closed when running the air conditioner. 90017 90012 Clean and dust your home regularly. 90017 90118 90003 Service Champions is known for trustworthy, on-time home service throughout the East Bay, South Bay, and Sacramento areas.90004 90003 For more information on taking care of your HVAC system this summer, do not hesitate to contact us. 90004 90002 90003 After celebrating a sun-filled Independence Day, it’s clear that summer is in full swing. 90004 .90000 How to buy the best air conditioner for your home 90001 90002 Choosing the best air conditioner can be a challenge. What size do you need? How much will it cost to run and how noisy will it be? We’ll help you find the right model for your home. 90003 90002 This guide focuses on split-systems, as these are the most popular type of air conditioner in Australia. You can also check out our ducted air conditioner buying guide, and our portable air conditioner buying guide. 90003 90002 On this page: 90003 90008 What type of air conditioner should I get? 90009 90002 For most homes, a reverse-cycle split-system air conditioner will be the best option.Let’s break down what that means. 90003 90012 Types of air conditioner and their costs 90013 90012 Split-system 90013 90002 These have two parts: an indoor unit and an outdoor unit, connected by pipes containing refrigerant gas. They are the most common air conditioner type in Australia, and are good for a room or open plan area up to about 60m 90017 2 90018. Price range: $ 600- $ 5500.. 90003 90012 Multi-split 90013 90022 90002 Similar to a split-system, but with one outdoor unit connected to two or more indoor units.Good for two or three rooms that are reasonably close together, especially when separate split-systems or a ducted system are not suitable. About the same price range as the equivalent separate split-systems. 90003 90012 Ducted 90013 90002 These have a discreet central unit, usually located out of sight in your roof, connected by air ducts to air outlets and sensors in each room. Good for cooling and heating a whole house. See our ducted air conditioner buying guide for more details. Price range: $ 5000 + (can easily be $ 10,000 or more).90003 90012 Wall / window 90013 90002 A single box unit, installed in a window or through an external wall. Good for rooms and open-plan areas of up to 50m 90017 2 90018. Smaller units can be plugged into a normal power point; larger ones may need additional wiring. Not quite as efficient or effective as split-systems but a reasonable budget option if a split-system is not an option (for example if you’re renting). Price range: $ 400- $ 1100. 90003 90012 Portable 90013 90002 A single unit that can be moved from room to room as needed (but generally not easily).Most have a flexible duct that must be attached to a window to vent the heat outside. Good for rooms in households when a built-in option is not feasible (such as if you’re renting). Not as efficient as split-systems. See our portable air conditioner reviews. Price range: $ 300- $ 1300.. 90003 90039 90002 90022 CHOICE tip: 90039 You do not need to pay top dollar to get the best air conditioner. Some recommended models in our air conditioner reviews cost under $ 1500.. 90003 90012 What is reverse-cycle air conditioning? 90013 90002 A reverse-cycle air conditioner can heat as well as cool — in fact, it’s one of the cheapest ways to heat your home in winter.90003 90002 In cooling mode, a split-system air conditioner extracts heat from the indoor air and moves it outside, via the refrigerant gas in the pipes connecting the indoor and outdoor units. The outdoor unit releases the heat and pumps the cooled refrigerant back to the indoor unit where the cycle continues. In heating mode, the process is simply reversed, to extract heat energy from the outdoor air and sends it indoors (yes, even in cold weather there’s some heat energy in the outdoor air).90003 90002 If you only need an air conditioner for cooling in summer (for instance, if you live in an area with mild winters or you already have another heating system), then a cooling-only air conditioner could be right for you. They’re generally cheaper than reverse-cycle models but usually have all the same features. 90003 90052 90053 90054 90055 90022 Rooms and open-plan areas of up to 50 square metres. 90039 Usually installed in a window or external wall.Smaller units can be plugged into a normal power point; larger ones may need additional wiring. Not very common. Price range: $ 400- $ 1100. 90058 90059 90060 90061 90008 What size air conditioner do I need? 90009 90002 Here’s our rough guide to the air conditioner capacity (size) you’ll need for a particular room size. 90003 90002 Read the full article ‘What size air conditioner do I need?’. 90003 90068 90069 90054 90071 Room size 90072 90071 Capacity 90072 90059 90076 90053 90054 90055 Up to 20 m 90017 2 90018 90058 90055 2-2.5kW 90058 90059 90054 90055 20-40 m 90017 2 90018 90058 90055 2.5-5kW 90058 90059 90054 90055 40-60 m 90017 2 90018 90058 90055 4-6kW 90058 90059 90054 90055 60-80 m 90017 2 90018 90058 90055 5-7kW 90058 90059 90054 90055 80+ m 90017 2 90018 90058 90055 6-9kW 90058 90059 90060 90061 90002 So, that’s the ballpark guide, but you really need to do an accurate calculation before buying your air con, or else you’ll run into these issues: 90003 90122 90123 Models too powerful for the room size may run frequent short cycles to achieve the target temperature.This can result in the room getting too cold or hot, inadequate dehumidification (i.e. not drying the air enough, making the room feel less comfortable), increased power consumption and running costs, and wear and tear on the system. 90124 90123 Underpowered models may have to run more often at maximum output, which could dry the air too much and also create excessive wear. 90124 90127 90002 90022 CHOICE tip: 90039 Choose a model with equal or slightly greater capacity for the room.90003 90002 For example, if you calculate the room needs a 6kW model, then look for an air conditioner with rated cooling capacity in the range 6kW to 6.5kW (roughly). It’s probably a safer bet to get a model slightly above the required capacity than slightly below it, as a little extra grunt may help in extreme temperatures. But do not go too much above the required capacity. 90003 90012 How to do a proper calculation 90013 90002 Some installers and online calculators offer only a simplistic analysis and may tend to recommend a larger capacity than you really need.90003 90002 But there are a lot of variables to consider. For example, a well-insulated room with south-facing windows will be at the bottom end of the capacity range, while an uninsulated room with west-facing windows will be towards the top. 90003 90002 Likewise, a room in Perth will probably need a more powerful air conditioner compared to an otherwise identical room in Sydney. 90003 90002 A proper calculation takes all the room’s details into account: 90003 90122 90123 The size of the room: length, width and height.90124 90123 The type of room: living room, open-plan living room and kitchen, bedroom, etc. 90124 90123 The size and orientation of the windows and glass doors. 90022 90039 A large north- or west-facing window can let in a lot of heat in summer. 90124 90123 Shading and curtains on the windows. 90124 90123 Insulation of the floor, ceiling, and walls. 90124 90123 The local climate. 90124 90127 90002 Try the size calculator on fairair.com.au by the Australian Institute of Refrigeration, Air Conditioning and Heating (AIRAH).90003 90008 How much does it cost to run an air conditioner? 90009 90002 Running costs for a medium-sized air conditioner ranges from around $ 400- $ 550 a year. 90003 90002 We measure running costs in our air conditioner reviews. As you can see in the below table, running costs can vary by a few hundred dollars a year, depending on the model. 90003 90068 90169 Running costs of air conditioners we tested 90170 90069 90054 90071 Size 90072 90071 Yearly cost to run * 90072 90059 90076 90053 90054 90055 Small (up to 4kW) 90058 90055 $ 242- $ 492 90058 90059 90054 90055 Medium (4-6kW) 90058 90055 $ 402- $ 552 90058 90059 90054 90055 Large (over 6kW) 90058 90055 $ 442- $ 586 90058 90059 90060 90061 90200 90022 * 90039 Based on how much each model costs to deliver a set amount of cooling and heating per year at maximum capacity, with the remainder of the year in standby mode (based on electricity costs of 30 cents / kWh).It’s only indicative; your actual running costs may vary. 90203 90002 Heating and cooling appliances account for about 40% of the energy use in the average Australian home. Here’s how to save some money: 90003 90122 90123 Size: Having the right size of air conditioner is an important first step — see above. 90124 90123 Star ratings: A model with more stars will be more efficient and use less power than a model with fewer stars. (Keep your eye out for the new ‘zoned’ star-rating label currently being rolled out that gives more information about how the air conditioner performs in different parts of Australia and New Zealand).90124 90123 Our air conditioner reviews rate each model for cooling and heating efficiency more precisely than the star ratings, and give an indicative running cost for each model. 90124 90123 Make your home as energy-efficient as possible: see our top 10 tips on keeping your home cool efficiently and effectively. 90124 90123 Use Economy mode ( «Eco mode») if your air conditioner has one. 90124 90123 Set the target temperature (thermostat) to a reasonable temperature so the system does not have to work too hard and use more power than really necessary.90124 90127 90002 We recommend you set your air conditioner to no more than 8 ° C cooler than the outside temperature. 90003 90002 On a hot day — say 33 ° C — you might be tempted to put the air conditioner way down to 20 ° C, but for best efficiency try to cope with 25 ° C. 90003 90002 And in winter, set your reverse-cycle air conditioner to no more than 8 ° C warmer than the outside temperature (wear a jumper if you have to!). 90003 90002 Sticking to this 8 ° C differential will save on wear and tear on the air conditioner’s motor, and save big on your energy bill.Each degree cooler (or warmer in winter) can add about 10% to the running cost of your air conditioner. 90003 90002 Inverter air conditioners are generally more efficient and cost less to run than non-inverter (conventional) air conditioners. Most split systems on the market these days are inverter models. 90003 90122 90123 Inverter models vary the speed of the compressor (in the outdoor unit) so it speeds up or down as need demands. By not actually having to stop and start several times a day, there’s less stress on the compressor and less electricity used.90124 90123 In non-inverter models, the compressor in the outdoor unit is either on at full power, or off. This can cause more wear and tear on the compressor and uses more power to start up each time, so these models are not as efficient to run as inverter models. They can be cheaper to buy, but you will not find many non-inverter models on the market these days. 90124 90127 90008 How noisy are air conditioners? 90009 90002 Most modern split-system air conditioners are very quiet indoors and out, but it’s worth checking an air conditioner’s noise levels before you buy.90003 90002 We measure noise as part of our split-system air conditioner reviews. In our latest test, the noise from indoor units ranged from 19dB to 53dB, and from the outdoor units, 42dB to 69dB (measured on the quietest indoor fan setting). 90003 90002 For comparison, here are some common sound levels: 90003 90122 90123 30dBA: typical sound level of a quiet home 90124 90123 50dBA: interior of a quiet car while driving 90124 90123 60dBA: typical conversation 90124 90123 70-80dBA: vacuum cleaner 90124 90127 90002 A noisy indoor unit may interfere with your activities, conversation or sleep.A noisy outdoor unit can disturb you (if it’s too close to a bedroom or living room window) or your neighbours, so consider outdoor unit placement carefully. 90003 90002 Most local councils have noise restrictions relating to the use of air conditioners. Check council regulations before buying, and your strata rules if you live in an apartment, especially if the outdoor unit needs to be installed close to a neighbour’s house. 90003 90008 Features to consider 90009 90012 Fan speeds 90013 90002 The fan circulates cooled or heated air around the room.Look for a model with a wide airflow range and multiple fan speeds: from very high — to help the room cool down quickly, to very low — so there’s less noise and no unpleasant draught once you have the right temperature. 90003 90012 Operating modes 90013 90122 90123 90022 Auto: 90039 Automatically chooses the mode required to keep the room at the chosen temperature. 90124 90123 90022 Cool: 90039 Pumps heat from the inside to the outside, cooling the room. 90124 90123 90022 Heat: 90039 Pumps heat from the outside to the inside, warming the room.90124 90123 90022 Dry: 90039 Dehumidifies the air. Provides some cooling, but not as much as cooling mode. 90124 90123 90022 Fan only: 90039 Blows air without heating, cooling or drying, which is useful when all you want is a cooling breeze. 90124 90123 90022 Economy: 90039 Also called Eco mode, this reduces power consumption. Different brands implement this in different ways. It may simply reduce the cooling or heating output by adjusting the thermostat a degree or two, or it may use sensors to detect if no one is in the room and then reduce the cooling / heating.90124 90127 90012 Human presence sensor 90013 90122 90123 This detects whether someone is in the room, so the unit knows to keep working. Some models even direct the air movement towards the sensed person. When no one is detected, the unit might switch to an economy mode to reduce power consumption. 90124 90123 Having this feature does not mean you can leave the air conditioner running for hours when the house is empty. You’re still much better off turning it off and using the timer function to turn it back on just before you return home, or turning it on remotely via Wi-Fi (see next item).90124 90123 This feature goes by different names. Mitsubishi Electric calls it Absence Detection; for Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, it’s Eco Operation; for Panasonic it’s ECONAVI; for Daikin, it’s Intelligent Eye. 90124 90127 90002 Many newer-model air conditioners can be controlled remotely via an app on your smartphone. 90003 90012 Wi-Fi and apps control 90013 90122 90123 Many newer models can connect to the wireless network in your home so you can control the air conditioner via an app on your smartphone — handy if you’re at work and want to turn it on before you get home, or you’re at home and you’ve misplaced the remote.90124 90123 Some have this feature built in; others need a controller device added to the air conditioner to enable it. 90124 90127 90012 Air filters and self-cleaning 90013 90122 90123 Air conditioners offer increasingly sophisticated air filtration systems, to remove allergens, mould, bacteria, odours and dust from the air. 90124 90123 This is often accompanied by a self-cleaning function to keep the inside of the unit dry and reduce the build-up of dust and the growth of mould; this also helps keep the unit running more efficiently.90124 90127 90012 Remote control 90013 90002 Look for large, well-spaced buttons with easy-to-read labels, and a big, easy-to-read LCD screen. 90003 90002 The remote control should be easy to read and use with well-spaced buttons. 90003 90012 Sleep mode 90013 90002 This function adjusts the temperature in steps to a comfortable level for sleeping so the air conditioner does not work as hard (and is quieter) when you’re sleeping.90003 90012 Adjustable or oscillating louvres 90013 90002 We recommend you point them up for cool air and down for warm. This can be done via the remote for most models. Left and right adjustability helps direct air to where it’s needed. 90003 90012 Restart delay 90013 90002 Protects the compressor by preventing the air conditioner from starting up again too soon after being switched off. 90003 90012 Demand Response Enabling Device (DRED) 90013 90122 90123 If you have an air conditioner with the Demand Response Enabling Device (DRED, or PeakSmart) feature, and your energy provider offers the PeakSmart service, they’ll be able to remotely switch your air conditioner to an economy mode during times of high demand on the grid.90124 90123 This will usually have no major impact on the air conditioner’s cooling (or heating) output — you might not even notice it happening — but it will reduce the amount of power the air conditioner is using, not just saving you money but also reducing the need for more ‘poles and wires’ to meet energy needs. 90124 90123 So far only a few energy companies provide the service. Some energy companies, including Queensland-based Energex and Ergon, also pay incentives to customers who buy DRED-enabled air conditioners.90124 90127 90002 A high-wall mounted air con will blow air easily across a room. 90003 90002 Wall-mounted or ceiling-mounted? 90003 90122 90123 90022 High wall: 90039 the indoor unit is mounted high on a wall so its air flow can easily blow across the room. 90124 90123 90022 Floor-mounted: 90039 the indoor unit is at floor level, which may be better suit some rooms.90124 90123 90022 Cassette: 90039 the indoor unit is mounted in the ceiling. 90124 90123 90022 Floor / ceiling: 90039 can be mounted on either the ceiling or the floor. 90124 90127 90012 Operating range 90013 90002 Do you live in a very hot or cold region? Most models can operate in temperatures from about -10 ° C up to about 45 ° C or more. This is sufficient for most parts of Australia, but check the air conditioner’s operating range before you buy, to make sure it can cope with any extremes in your area.(If you live in a hot and dry climate, an evaporative cooler can be a cheaper alternative to an air conditioner.) 90003 90012 Automatic de-icing 90013 90002 If you live in a cold area, get an air conditioner with automatic de-icing to avoid frost building up on the outdoor heat exchanger coils in winter. 90003 90012 Refrigerant gas 90013 90122 90123 Ozone-depleting refrigerants such as chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs) have been essentially phased out, but the most commonly used current refrigerant gas type, hydrofluorocarbon or HFC, is also problematic.In 2016 a new international agreement was reached to phase out the use of HFCs over the next few decades. 90124 90123 We’re seeing a clear trend in the models we test towards the use of R32, instead of R410A; these are both HFCs, but R32 has a lower global warming potential and should also give improved efficiency. 90124 90127 90008 When is the best time to buy an air conditioner? 90009 90122 90123 Avoid buying in peak season if you can; that will be summer in most parts of Australia, but could be mid-winter too if you’re in a colder region.Installers are usually very busy in these periods and you might have to wait some weeks before your new unit can be installed. 90124 90123 If possible, shop around before the peak season starts, so that your new unit is installed and ready for when you’ll need it most. 90124 90123 Alternatively, it can be worth buying just after the season ends. Old stock may be discounted as retailers make room for new models. 90124 90127 90008 How to install a split-system air conditioner 90009 90122 90123 You’ll need a licensed air conditioner installer because of the gas refrigerant.Look for an installer with ARCtick approval, and get a few quotes. Most traders offer supply and install packages, and some installation only (meaning you’ll need to purchase the unit yourself). 90124 90123 As well as an ARCtick accreditation, your air conditioner installer should have an electrical qualification in order to wire your air conditioner into your home. Many do not, but this means they will be unable to offer a warranty on the electrical work, only the air conditioner itself. Likewise, plumbing your air conditioners ‘drain into your home’s stormwater system needs to be performed by a qualified plumber.So check that the installer you choose has the necessary accreditations to carry out the whole installation. 90124 90123 It’s generally better to install an air conditioner on a longer wall of a room, and not directly above a window, but your installer should recommend the best place for your individual situation. 90124 90123 The outdoor unit of your split-system needs to be installed on a firm base (for example, a concrete slab) or attached to a wall using sturdy brackets. It should be as close as possible to the indoor air outlet, ideally with about three to five metres of pipes between the two units.90124 90127 90008 Do air conditioners have HEPA filters? 90009 90002 All air conditioners have a dust filter in the indoor unit. This traps dust from the air as it circulates through, mainly to stop it clogging up the internal workings. But the dust filter will only have a minimal effect, if any, on smoke and other very fine particles. 90003 90002 To filter out smoke, you really need a HEPA filter. But HEPA filters can not practically be fitted to split-system or ducted air conditioners, because air conditioners have to deliver quite significant volumes of air flow into the room, and would need massively powerful fans in the indoor unit to force that amount of air through the very tight weave of a HEPA filter.90003 90002 Some air conditioners include an air purification filter based on ionisation. There are a few variations on this type, including photocatalytic and plasma stream filters. Ionisation filters can remove at least some smoke, but usually the claims for these filters focus on the removal of fine dust, odours, allergens and germs. For more details, see our guide to air conditioner purification filters. 90003 90002 Online, you may find various aftermarket air purifying filters for air conditioners, described as electrostatic, activated carbon or similar.They claim to be compatible with major air conditioner brands and in some cases can be cut to size to suit different models. Be cautious with any such filters. While they may provide filtration as claimed, it’s highly unlikely that they’ve been thoroughly tested with every air conditioner brand, and using non-genuine parts may reduce your air conditioner’s performance, possibly cause damage and could void your warranty. 90003 90002 The compressor should be installed on a firm base or attached to a wall with sturdy brackets, and protected from direct sunlight.90003 90122 90123 Shade the outdoor part of your air conditioner from direct sunlight — for example, by installing it on a southern wall or providing an awning. 90124 90123 Single-phase power is all you need for most single (and multi) split-system air conditioners. Three-phase power might be needed for very large multi-split or ducted systems, say 20kW capacity or more. 90124 90123 Once you’ve got your air conditioner, do not forget to clean the filters periodically and have the unit serviced regularly.90124 90127 90002 The Department of Environment and Energy tested two types of solar-powered air conditioning systems in 2016. One category failed testing and was subsequently removed from sale in Australia. 90003 90002 The two categories tested include solar thermal and solar photovoltaic air conditioners. Unlike solar photovoltaic (PV) air conditioners, which convert sunlight captured by a solar array into electricity, thermal systems use the sun’s heat to turn an electric generator.90003 90002 All three of the solar thermal air conditioners failed to pass the department’s testing. None passed the Greenhouse and Energy Minimum Standards (GEMS) standard for heating and cooling and, worse yet, all three operated between 4% and 21% less efficiently with the solar power technology enabled. 90003 90002 The report slammed solar thermal boosting as «a marketing gimmick that offers no improvement in the performance or amenity of the air conditioner «. 90003 90002 «As a result,» it continued, «these models can no longer be supplied in the Australian market.» 90003 90002 In 2012 CHOICE tested a solar thermal air conditioner and found that it was not any more efficient or better performing. 90003 90002 The photovoltaic air conditioner, by comparison, passed all of the government department’s tests, delivering «significant improvements in efficiency». 90003 90002 But it had its own drawbacks. Using solar energy proved advantageous until the air conditioner operated at 75% of its solar array’s capacity, where it became ‘unstable’ and would switch between solar and mains power.90003 90002 A lot of stored electricity is wasted by PV air conditioners, the report found. A solar air conditioner will only use the energy it captures when it’s in operation during the daytime. Energy captured would be wasted otherwise as it can not be used to power different household appliances. 90003 90002 There are two easy things people can do if they want to run a household more efficiently, says Chris Barnes, head of household at CHOICE. 90003 90002 «Most households will be better off in the long run by buying an efficient air conditioner with a high star rating.90003 90002 «But if you want to reduce your electricity consumption further, look at installing a solar PV array. » 90003 .90000 How To Run Air Conditioning On Solar Power 90001 90002 Today I wanted to share information about running air conditioning on solar power. 90003 90002 When I was first planning to move into my tiny house, considering the possibility of running a solar powered air conditioner and cooling system weighed heavily on my mind. After all, living in a humid state, I’ll tell you, I’m one who can not tolerate the heat. This is especially true, coming from New Hampshire-I’m a cold weather guy and here in North Carolina, it gets hot! An AC unit is critical, even if you’re running on solar power.90003 90002 90007 90003 90002 Well, Charlotte’s heat really came full force this week. I know for many their climate does not get as humid as it does here, so there are other options besides running a house air conditioner. Unfortunately, here, it’s necessary. Without AC I can not really sleep, even using a fan to passively cool the house. 90003 90002 Right now, the humidity is still tolerable, but it’s HOT and the humidity is coming soon. It has been in the high 80’s and low 90’s outside, which made my house in the mid 90’s inside.90003 90002 So, what are the tiny house air conditioner solutions? How do you cool off your tiny house (even off the grid) and beat the heat? 90003 90015 Deciding to Buy a Solar Powered Air Conditioner 90016 90002 I thought I’d do a post today because I’ve been able to run a few real-world experiments with my tiny house and solar powered AC. I have not seen any experienced reporting on the topic of running air conditioning on solar power, so I figured it would be helpful for you all to hear what I did.90003 90002 When it comes to cooling a tiny house, there are three areas to look at: isolation, such as shade, seals and insulation; ventilation, such as fans and setting open windows for cross-winds; and artificial cooling. Many tiny homes, by their portable nature, do not have basements, where you can retreat if you need to cool off. Since heat rises and your entire home is above the ground, you need alternative methods to cool down. 90003 90002 Desert-dwellers may be able to rely on swamp coolers and evaporation-based cooling systems Here in the humid part of the world, these setups never work because our air is already humid.It’s impossible to cool humidity with MORE humidity. 90003 90023 FREE SOLAR POWER 90024 90023 WORKBOOK + VIDEO GUIDE 90024 90002 Join the newsletter and get it for free now! 90003 90002 Isolation, using shade and insulation to your advantage, is important if you live in off the grid. You can keep your house fairly cool by simply, closing off your space, especially in the heat of the day. This is why I decided to park my tiny house under the trees for shade and run my solar panels in the wide-open field.While these methods help and should be employed, of course, chances are you’ll still need to rely on a solar powered air conditioner system to get through the hottest days. 90003 90002 After doing my research on what unit would work best with my solar panel set up and power levels. I ordered my unit before I found an installer. I have yet to hook up my mini split air conditioning system (see the update below where I talk about life on solar with my mini split) because it has taken me a long time to find a HVAC installer who would install my mini split AC.As I discovered after buying my mini split unit, most installers insist they need to sell you the air conditioning equipment if they are going to install it. Obviously, this was an unknown factor to me when I ordered my house air conditioning unit … but these are the bumps in the road you experience when you live The Tiny Life. 90003 90033 90002 Fujitsu Air Conditioning System 90003 90015 How Much Power Does an Air Conditioner Use? 90016 90002 For heating and cooling, I opted for the Fujitsu 9RLS2 which is a 9,000 BTU Ductless Mini Split Air Conditioner Heat Pump System with a SEER (Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio) rating of 27.To give you an idea, older, less efficient mini split air conditioning systems have a SEER rating of around 8 to 10. Modern air conditioning systems, labeled highly efficient may have a rating of 15 or so, but most today are around 12-13 . 90003 90002 The SEER rating was very important because my tiny house solar panel system simply could not handle the less efficient cooling systems. The SEER rating is determined by BTUs (British Thermal Units) to Watts. The higher the number, the better. 90003 90002 The other big reason I choose this particular mini split air conditioning unit versus a standard window air conditioner was aesthetics.My air handler is wall mounted, out of the way and above eye level. This has a few advantages. First, it keeps my limited square footage clear of clutter. Secondly, it keeps my windows looking nice because there’s no window unit blighting a good design. Lastly, keeping it above eye level also helps you forget about it because as humans we do not often look up. 90003 90002 90045 90003 90002 While I’m working on getting an HVAC installer lined up to put in my Fujitsu Air Conditioning System, I’m using a portable air conditioner, which has worked pretty well.The downside to using a portable AC unit is it takes up a lot of space and it’s not as efficient. The portable AC unit I’m using has a SEER rating of 12, which means my new mini split system will be 225% more efficient once it’s installed. 90003 90049 UPDATE: 90050 It’s been several years now since I first wrote this post and I’ve been living full time totally off the grid and it’s wonderful. I was able to find an installer to pull the vacuum in my system and this thing cools like a dream.90002 During the summer the AC pulls between 450 watts and 700 watts, on «powerful» mode it draws about 1,000 watts. As a side note for heat, it pulls about 700 watts to 1,000 watts, 1,100 on «powerful». 90003 90002 If I had to do things all over again I’d go with a Mitsubishi brand mini split over the Fujitsu, because they seem to be a bit more well-designed. The Mitsubishi has also the critical feature of auto dry, which dries the coil of moisture before shutting down. I’ve had to clean my coils several times in the 5 years and a drying feature would almost eliminate this.90003 90015 Stress Testing My Portable AC Unit and Solar Panel Power System 90016 90002 I decided to «stress test» my solar panel system by turning the portable AC unit on high and setting the thermostat to 60 degrees. I wanted to see how long it would take for my solar panel system batteries to bottom out (50% discharge). The charge controller on my solar panel system automatically turns off the power to my house if the batteries power discharges down to 50%. This automatic shut off on the solar panel system prevents damage to the batteries by discharging too deep.90003 90002 90060 90003 90002 As you see by the chart above, keeping battery discharge at 50% or above gives me a little shy of 2,000 cycles or 5.4 years for the life of my batteries. I plan to add another set of four batteries to the solar panel system pretty soon, which will give me improved capacity and keep my discharge rate much higher than 50% (though I do not often get that low). In about 5 more years we should start seeing really interesting battery technologies hit the market. This should coincide with the life of my current batteries, so I plan to hop on these new technologies as soon as my batteries begin to fade.90003 90002 90049 UPDATE: 90050 It’s been several years now since I posted this. Last year I bit the bullet and added 6 more solar panels and 4 more batteries. This was mainly to avoid needing a generator in the winter months because they’re a royal pain. Cooling my house in the summer is still pretty simple since my house is so small. I usually turn my air conditioner on when I get home and shut it off when I leave. This allows the batteries to fully recharge and does not really impact cooling.90003 90002 My solar panel battery stress test was an interesting experiment. I ran the less efficient, portable air conditioner for three days solid, starting with a very warm house. At the end of the three days, I was very close to hitting 50% on my battery reserve, but it did not ever dip below that threshold. I decided, after three days, the test had gone on long enough to get an accurate reading and I stopped the test. I typically turn off the AC whenever I’m gone. 90003 90002 Following the test, the past few days were a bit trickier because since my solar panel battery system was so low, I needed it to build back up.Unfortunately, we had a series of cloudy days, making it tough to get more energy. While I’ve had plenty of power to run the AC overnight, the battery reserve is lower than I’d like. To give you an idea: on a normal sunny day my solar panel power system makes about 8,000 Watts, but on a cloudy day (when the clouds are very thick with no gaps) I get between 2,000 and 4,000 Watts. 90003 90015 The Advantage of Solar Powered Air Conditioning 90016 90002 When it’s hottest and the sun is shining the brightest, I can make lots of power! This allows me to run the AC full blast to keep my house nice and cool.Even with the air conditioner on high my solar panel system still makes enough power to add 2,000 Watts into the batteries. Compare this to heating, where you often need the heat the most at night when the sun is not out. This results in a major drain on your batteries. Compounding the issue of running heating off solar panel energy, heaters are more energy intensive than cooling and air conditioning units. 90003 90002 The other night I decided to conduct another experiment. I got my house very cold by running the AC unit.Then, I turned off the cool air at midnight (when I usually go to bed). Outside it was about 65 degrees and about 45% humidity-so not bad. I left all the windows closed to see how much my body heat would warm up the house. In the summer, opening the windows does not often does not help anyway, even if it is cooler outside because the humidity increases the «feels like» temperature. 90003 90002 As it turns out in just three hours my body heat warmed up the loft of my tiny house to the point I woke up from being so uncomfortable from the heat! Around 3:30 am I woke up and it was very hot in my loft.I checked the time and was surprised how little time it took. I should note when I fall asleep, I usually stay asleep all night, even if I get warm. The fact I woke up from the heat, shows how uncomfortable it was in my loft because it takes a lot! 90003 90002 Fortunately, I had prepared for this and all I did was crank open my skylight (the highest point in my house) and the loft end window. I switched on a fan to draw in cool air. Within 5 minutes the whole place dropped about 5 degrees and I was back asleep.90003 90002 So that has been my real-world experiences with the tiny house, AC units and solar panel power systems. I know I had always been frustrated by not enough stories and real-life examples of AC and cooling issues, so hopefully my story will help others. 90003 90002 Key resources for those wanting more technical stuff: 90003 90086 90002 90088 My Setup For Solar Power 90089 90003 90091 90092 Details of my tiny house solar panel system 90093 90092 Calculating solar power system requirements 90093 90092 Building racks to hold solar panels 90093 90092 Adding a solar panel gear cabinet 90093 90092 Understanding solar panel electric systems 90093 90092 Choosing a backup generator 90093 90104 By Ryan Mitchell on May 15, 2018 / Homesteading, Solar, Tiny House .
